COVID

So the little guy finally caught Covid...we managed to avoid it for a full year! We suspect that daddy brought it home from work. Other family members are starting to show symptoms, but just low-grade fevers, headaches and stuffy noses. All pretty mild and not much of a nuisance since we are stuck at home anyway.
Jacob is managing well so far. He is struggling with fever up to 102, non-productive cough, difficulty breathing, head and body pain and now diarrhea. We are lucky that he is still tolerating slow feeds through his g-tube, so we are able to give him his regular nutrition plus extra fluids and electrolytes. If he loses the ability to take his feeds then we will no longer be able to keep him at home.
He is doing breathing treatments every 4 hours and is only requiring oxygen support when he is sleeping. He is weak and uncomfortable but honestly he is faring better at this point than he does with the flu so we are feeling encouraged. The doctor went ahead and prescribed antibiotics because of his high risk of developing pneumonia. He just had a warm bath and is tucked back into his bed for nap. I can tell his fever is going up again.
Statistically children are doing well with Covid, even most of the complex children with many underlying issues. Our concern is him tiring if symptoms continue for an extended time. He could also easily develop a secondary medical problem...he does that to us often. We also have no nursing support right now, so mama and daddy may have to devise a shift schedule instead of both of us wandering around at all hours.
We survived virtual school today with our two older quarantined kiddos, and now I'm camped in the chair in Jacob's room with an eye on the monitors. He's too uncomfortable for us to hold him but he likes for someone to stay in his room. We'll keep you posted.
